Bala
General Information
Bala is located in the Gwynedd region of Wales, United Kingdom and sits on the northern side of Bala Lake, Wale's largest natural lake. This town is popular as a base for tourists experiencing the surrounding mountains and Snowdonia National Park, as well as water-sports enthusiasts. The lake is also known for the gwyniad, an unusual fish related to the salmon. There is a narrow-gauge railway which goes alongside the lake shore from Llanuwchllyn.
Bala is a very popular town especially in the summer months bustling with tourists. The Afon Tryweryn river which runs through Bala, is famous for its white water kayaking, with national and international events being held here. With two sailing clubs and a number of companies providing water-sport equipment, tourists will never be without something to do. Bala holds the 'Wa Bala' music festival each year, showcasing local Welsh bands.
The area surrounding Bala, is beautiful with a dramatic scenery of mountains and valleys, providing endless walks and hikes for outdoor lovers.
