General Information

Cardiff is the capital city of Wales, United Kingdom having been confirmed as the capital in 1955.  The city has many famous buildings from the city hall, the law courts, the Welsh National War Memorial to the National Museum of Art.  Aside from Paris, the National Museum of Art has one of the largest collections of Impressionist paintings, and is a very popular tourist attraction.

Of course the most remarkable attraction to Cardiff is the Cardiff Castle.  With a history spanning over 2000 years and dominating the city’s centre, the castle is a definite must-see when in Wales.  The spectacular interior can be viewed with guided tours and information sessions.

Cardiff increased and renovated its sport and event facilities to play host during the 2012 Olympic football games.  With its world-class stadiums for rugby, football, cricket and athletics, along with an International Sports Village which offers an Olympic size swimming pool, an ice rink and the Cardiff International White Water Centre – this city is any sport-fanatic’s dream.

The city’s night life and entertainment scene features everything from opera, ballet, musicals to theatres and night clubs – catering to very visitors tastes.

Located just outside Cardiff is the St Fagans National History Museum which is one of the world’s best open-air museums.  Holding approximately 40 original buildings which have been transported from all over Wales, the museum gives tourists an insight into Welsh history.

Cardiff’s transport links are very impressive, with the Central railway station being the largest railway station in Wales with its seven platforms.  It provides direct services to most of the major country centres including London, Manchester and Birmingham.

Cardiff is not all buildings and city life, there is also the tranquil Bute Park situated in the centre of the city, which offers beautiful grounds and scenery, giving one the impression of wide open space and nature.
